Three persons suspected to be Fulani men who use
monkeys to entertain people and collect money in
the process, narrowly escaped being lynched in
Enugu when a passer-by lost the sum of N200, 000
he just withdrew from bank. Eyewitness told DailyPost that the victim’s money
miraculously disappeared from his pocket when one
of the monkeys touched him. The three men who were carrying one monkey each
were passing along the ever-busy Agbani Road,
Enugu when they stopped in front of one of the new
generation banks along the road where they
entertained people with the monkeys doing
acrobatic to the admiration of all. However, DailyPost learnt that the entertainment
turned sour, when a young man who just cashed
N200, 000 noticed the sudden disappearance of his
money as soon as the playing monkey touched
him. Immediately, the victim raised alarm, which
attracted many people to the scene including some
mobile policemen guarding the bank. One of the monkeys was said to have vomited the
money when the crowd gathered to lynch the
monkey-wielding men and were even ready to set
them ablaze but for the intervention of the
policemen on duty at the bank. Infuriated that the monkey
vomited the money, the
crowd went wild and threatened to kill the men who
they accused of using their monkeys to steal
money from people’s pockets when they gather to
enjoy the fun from the monkeys. When this reporter arrived at the scene, he saw
crowd of people who had gathered to witness the
strange incident. Shouting on top of his voice, one
of them said: “We’ll kill them. These Fulanis are
thieves. They have been using the monkeys to
dispossess people of their monies. It is not only today, they have been doing it everywhere”. A policeman at the scene, Mr. S.K.C Mba told
DailyPost that they were waiting for re-enforcement
from the Mobile Police 3 to take the three Fulani
entertainers to their station so that the crowd would
not lynch them.
